Introductions:

Biafo Hisper The central Karakoram, first explored and mapped in 1937 and 1939, is perhaps the wildest of all. It is an area of vast glaciers, high mountains and remote passes. Length of Biafo Glacier is 68 kilometers / 42 miles long with a total area of 625 sq. km, which starts from Korofong above Askole village. Hispar Glacier is 52 Kilometers long. It is only the Hispar pass, which separates the Hisper and Biafo Glaciers. However, most geographers consider the two glaciers as one; they call Biafo-Hispar Glacier. If that be so then the 120 kilometers / 75 miles long BIAFO- HISPAR Glacier probably becomes the second longest glacier in the world (outside the Polar Region). It connects the ancient mountain kingdoms of Hunza and Baltistan. It is really special because of its immensity – it is 16 km long and together with the both glaciers it creates the longest glacial traverse (110 km) outside the poles.

The trek consist of an easy hike of about 10-13 days depending on weather and condition of hikers. It is completely isolated with no regular communication network. No regular trail marks or signposts exist mainly due to shifting nature of the glaciers. Some campsites are marked though. Food and other resources need to be hauled. I have provided a link at the bottom to the tour guides which helped us in acquiring a guide and porters for the trek.

Approaching Snow Lake following a broad highway of Ice, a huge glaciated basin at 4500 meters, there could be a couple of crevasse areas where it will be necessary to rope up. Here we have the opportunity to view Biantha Brakk, (7284 m), Snow Lake peak and Simkiang glacier. From here we ascend the Hispar La and camp on the summit, which gives us a panoramic sunset and sunrise views of the whole Biafo - Hispar.
